Job summary

Ochsner Health seeks a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to perform advanced ultrasound procedures in collaboration with staff radiologists. The role mentors junior staff and students, ensuring high standards of imaging quality and patient care.

Required CAHEA training in Diagnostic Medical Sonography and RDMS or registry eligibility within 1 year. BLS is required; 2 years preferred. Strong knowledge of abdominal anatomy and effective communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• RDMS or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Verifies physician order and procedure to assure accuracy.
• Operates imaging equipment independently per protocol and assists radiologists in guided procedures.
• Reviews patient images for diagnostic quality and completes quality control procedures.
• Facilitates departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance).
• Adapts communication to patient population and explains procedures clearly.
