Job description

Join to apply for the Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist role at VA Detroit.

This position is in the Radiology Service at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center (RRVAMC). Operates independently and without direct supervision as the technologist responsible for the performance and coordination of all diagnostic radiology examinations. These exams are performed with and without the use of contrast materials. The purpose of these exams is to achieve diagnostic radiographic studies so that proper diagnosis and treatment may be effectuated.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Performing all manner of radiographic examinations, including general radiography of the extremities, pelvis, spine, chest, and skull.
  2. Maintaining effective control of the Radiology area by coordinating, planning, organizing, and executing daily work to ensure workflow efficiency.
  3. Supervising and training rotating x-ray students and technologists.
  4. Properly identifying patient films using identifiers and lead markers.
  5. Explaining procedures to patients and providing instructions.
  6. Practicing radiation safety to reduce exposure.
  7. Performing other tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications include:
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by ARRT (R).
  • Completion of a 24-month post-high school radiologic technology program.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Background/security investigation clearance.
  • Participation in VA's online onboarding and pre-employment requirements.

  • Salary is competitive with regular increases.
  • Paid time off includes 13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days sick leave, and 11 federal holidays.
  • Other benefits include federal retirement, health insurance, and optional telework (not available).
