Job description

Summary

This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) position is assigned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - Radiology Service within the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a 1B facility. The DRT is responsible for independently performing a variety of routine to moderately complex diagnostic radiology examinations.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, per VA Policy.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology - Radiography (ARRT) (R). A copy of unexpired certification must be submitted.
  • Education: Completion of a 24-month full-time training course in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or associate degree from an accredited institution recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). A copy of the certificate or transcript showing the degree must be submitted.
  • Grandfathering Provision: Current VHA employees in this occupation who meet the criteria may qualify.
  • Exception for Non-Certified - Entry Level Candidates: Non-certified DRTs who meet ARRT requirements may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate DRT under specific conditions, including a waiver of certification for up to two years at the GS-5 entry level.

Details of experience and education requirements for GS-5 through GS-8 levels, including KSAs (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities) for each grade, are provided in the original description.

Physical Requirements:

Work involves heavy lifting, prolonged standing, reaching, use of fingers, and other physical demands, including wearing lead aprons for extended periods.
