Job description

Summary

This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) position is assigned to the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) - Radiology Service within the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. The Cincinnati VA Medical Center is a 1B facility. The DRT is responsible for independently performing a wide variety of routine to moderately complex diagnostic radiology examinations.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only if qualified citizens are unavailable.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by ARRT (R); submit proof of certification.
  • Completion of a 24-month full-time post-high school radiologic technology program, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agency; submit certificate or transcript.
  • May qualify under VA Grandfathering Provision if applicable.
  • Exception for Non-Certified Entry Level Candidates: can be appointed temporarily as a graduate DRT under specific conditions.

Grade Determinations:

  • GS-5: No experience beyond basic requirements.
  • GS-6: One year of experience equivalent to GS-5 or 1 academic year of graduate education; KSAs include knowledge of radiographic techniques, anatomy, patient safety, equipment, and basic computer skills.
  • GS-7: One year of experience at GS-6 level demonstrating clinical competencies or equivalent graduate education; additional KSAs include knowledge of digital imaging, contrast materials, radiation protection, CR systems, PACS, and computer skills.
  • GS-8: One year of experience at GS-7 demonstrating advanced competencies; KSAs include system operation, calibration, patient record review, physiologic monitoring, and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, moderate carrying, pushing, reaching, dexterity, prolonged standing/walking, bending, visual and auditory requirements, speed, emotional stability, and ability to wear lead aprons for extended periods.

Duties

The employee will operate in a Whole Health System of care, focusing on personalized health plans, healing relationships, and community connection, aligned with the VA mission to honor Veterans.

Major duties include:

  • Receiving patients, explaining procedures, positioning, and making exposures.
  • Performing standard and complex radiologic examinations, consulting with radiologists, and adjusting procedures as needed.
  • Developing new techniques, optimizing protocols, and visualizing pathology.
  • Ensuring proper data entry, image transfer, and compliance with HIPAA and safety guidelines.
  • Maintaining equipment, supplies, and cleanliness.
  • Participating in physiologic monitoring and other related duties.

Work schedule is Monday to Friday, 4:00 pm to 12:00 am, including on-call and weekends. Other benefits include competitive salary, paid time off, parental leave, childcare subsidy, federal retirement and insurance options, and a non-virtual position.
