Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Eligibility requirements must be met per VHA policy, and applications should be submitted within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of 06/05/2025. Basic requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship, with non-citizens eligible only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA policy.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, as mandated by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
  • Certification in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification for assignments involving CT, MRI, or Mammography performed independently.
  • Possession of an advanced certification demonstrates independent operation and clinical competency in the specialty, having passed the designated exam.
  • Non-certified DRTs who meet ARRT requirements may receive a temporary appointment as graduate DRTs, with a waiver of certification for up to two years, applicable only at the GS-5 entry level.
  • Educational requirements include a full-time, 24-month (or equivalent) post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, accredited by JRCERT or recognized agencies.
  • Additional grade-specific experience and KSAs are detailed for GS-5 through GS-8, with each level requiring specific experience, education, and demonstrated competencies.
Duties

This full-time Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist position in Diagnostic Imaging at the Boston VA Medical Center involves:

  • Receiving and interpreting procedure requests from radiologists or medical officers.
  • Prioritizing requisitions based on urgency and room availability.
  • Independently performing procedures in various departments, including GI, Urology, Trauma, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, and fluoroscopy-guided interventions.
  • Work hours are from 12:00 am to 8:00 am, Monday through Friday, with rotational shifts including weekends, holidays, evenings, and nights.
  • This is not a virtual position. The role may include participation in the EDRP, parental leave, childcare subsidies, and other federal benefits.
