Salary Range: $32,405.00 - $51,686.00

Summary

The Department of Human Services (DHS) Program Assistant provides social services to program recipients and support for families. This role is governed by state and federal laws and agency policies.

Functions
  • Teaches and demonstrates living skills such as budgeting, cooking, menu planning, housekeeping, and child care.
  • Transports clients and/or family members for medical, dental, educational, and counseling appointments.
  • Assists clients in locating resources by contacting organizations or agencies for assistance.
  • Develops and monitors behavior plans, parenting/anger management classes, and maintains detailed case narratives.
  • Participates in training clients in employment skills, providing materials, monitoring work, and assisting as needed.
  • Attends staff and mandatory trainings.
  • Schedules, monitors, and documents family visits.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering phones, routing calls, receiving referrals, typing documents, filing, and handling mail.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of agency and community resources.
  • Proficiency in applicable computer applications.
  • Ability to teach and model living skills.
  • Ability to observe, evaluate contacts and case development.
  • Ability to interview clients, collect, and evaluate data.
  • Ability to prepare and present information orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience in a social-service related field. Additional requirements may be reviewed and approved by the Office of Personnel Management. Other education or experience may substitute for these requirements with approval.
