The Digestive Health Office Associate is responsible for all functions and processes related to patient check-in, check-out, registration and scheduling. They obtain and update patient demographic and financial information in a demanding environment using multiple applications to ensure timely processing of patient visits. The role includes accurate patient identification, adherence to Red Flag procedures for safety, staying current with insurance changes, managing managed care requirements, and completing accurate insurance entry to satisfy billing requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Registration: Initiates and completes patient visit information in accordance with YNHH department protocol.
    • Collects necessary patient demographic and insurance information during registration.
  • Scheduling: Accurately and promptly schedules patient appointments per department standards.
    • Obtains all necessary patient demographic and insurance information and collaborates with the clinical team to schedule appointments according to facility schedule, staff availability, and patient needs.
  • Insurance: Ensures appropriate financial information is accurately obtained and documented to support proper reimbursement.
    • Demonstrates understanding of third-party payers and accurately completes insurance entry to satisfy billing requirements.
  • Customer Service: Follows guidelines in accordance with YNHH department protocol.
    • Ensures a smooth patient experience by acknowledging and receiving patients, physicians, and visitors following YNHHS Standard of Professional Behaviors.
  • Resource Management: Utilizes health system and department resources to support the patient experience.
    • Participates in committees, staff meetings, workgroups, and attends all in-service sessions to support team building and communication enhancements.
  • Supports organizational and departmental goals by performing all functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor, including identifying and recommending opportunities to improve Patient Access activities.
Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.

Experience

1 to 2 years of work experience in a customer service environment, preferably in a hospital or physician office with an emphasis on registration and scheduling.

Special Skills

Self-directed, well organized, and exhibiting excellent interpersonal and team-oriented skills with a strong ability to coordinate and schedule patient appointments. Basic computer skills and the ability to adapt to various programs/systems. Capable of balancing appropriate levels of intervention and partnering with clinical staff to ensure the highest quality of patient care.
