Job summary

University of Illinois Chicago seeks a DevOps Engineer to design and optimize secure, scalable infrastructure for the University AI Platform and enterprise services. Responsibilities include building CI/CD pipelines, enforcing security and compliance, and mentoring engineers.

The role requires experience with Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and GitHub Actions in a multi-cloud environment, with Illinois residency preferred. Hybrid work arrangement in Chicago is available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
• At least 1 year of professional IT experience within IT development.
• Experience in a multi-cloud development environment with CI/CD concepts and tools (GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
• Experience architecting and managing container orchestration platforms using Kubernetes and Docker.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement secure, scalable infrastructure for the University AI Platform and enterprise services using Terraform, Kubernetes, and containerization technologies.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) ensuring AI tools and applications meet security, accessibility, and compliance standards.
• Collaborates with senior technical staff to align on priorities and technical direction.
• Maintain and optimize GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and related tooling with consistent standards.
