Job summary

TEKsystems in Chicago, IL is seeking an AWS DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure for production and non-production applications. You will work in a lean, product-focused engineering organization to automate infrastructure, deliver reliable cloud services, and reduce friction for developers and users in a hybrid onsite model.

This contract role requires 8+ years in DevOps/SRE, strong CI/CD experience with Jenkins, Terraform IaC, and hands-on AWS, observability

Qualifications

8+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, platform engineering, or similar roles supporting production services.
Strong CI/CD experience (Jenkins and Git-based workflows) and building secure, reliable pipelines.
Experience implementing and operating observability platforms (logging/metrics/alerting); Elastic Stack/OpenSearch is a plus.
Hands-on experience designing and operating AWS environments (networking, IAM, security, reliability).
Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred; CloudFormation acceptable).
Experience supporting CI/CD builds and deployment patterns for common stacks (Java, NodeJS, .NET).
Scripting experience in Bash, Python, or PowerShell.
Experience working on large scale cloud-based web applications.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure for production and non-production applications with reliability and simplicity as primary goals.
Architect and evolve multi-account AWS foundations to enable secure, scalable delivery.
Design and operate cloud networking architecture (VPCs, routing, segmentation) for reliability, security, and compliance.
Treat reliability, security, and compliance as core design concerns throughout the system lifecycle.
Build tooling and automation to reduce errors and improve day-to-day operations.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting to make system behavior observable and actionable.
Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate infrastructure delivery, automation, and troubleshooting with sound engineering judgment.
Implement release guardrails for safer deployments and provide production support during deployments.
Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and durable improvements to prevent recurrence.
Collaborate with application engineers to co-own system design and continuous improvement.
Maintain lightweight documentation to support shared ownership and on-call operations.
