Job summary

The University of Chicago’s PSD Computer Science: Tech Administration team seeks an experienced infrastructure and platform engineer to advance our production systems. You will lead architecture, reliability, and automation across on‑prem and cloud environments, mentoring engineers and improving CI/CD, monitoring, and security.

Responsibilities include implementing IaC, maintaining system health, and developing automation in Python and shell scripts, while collaborating with faculty and staff on

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years in infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or SRE roles.
• 3+ years supporting Linux servers in production.
• Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Github Pipelines, Jenkins).
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Terraform).
• Experience supporting web servers (Apache, Nginx).
• Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, DataDog, Splunk, Grafana, Loki).
• Familiarity with Linux core networking, storage & security.

Responsibilities

• Propose and define architectural standards; mentor junior engineers; drive platform reliability, automation, security, and observability across on‑prem and cloud environments.
• Lead initiatives to improve infrastructure reliability, security, and performance (CI/CD, monitoring, automation).
• Implement infrastructure-as-code using Puppet, Terraform, and GitLab actions.
• Maintain robust system monitoring, alerting, and logging for platform health and visibility.
• Perform expert-level build, configuration, and lifecycle management of Linux/Unix systems in various environments.
• Develop automation scripts in Python and shell to streamline operations.
