Job description

Development & Production Geoscientist (Deepwater)

Raise is currently hiring a contract team member on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader.

Responsibilities
  • Provides integrated subsurface leadership for oil and gas field development, reservoir management, and production optimization. The role connects geological, geophysical, petrophysical, reservoir-engineering, production-technology, drilling, and commercial perspectives to support high-quality decisions throughout the producing-asset lifecycle.
  • The successful candidate will integrate seismic interpretation, well logs, core, pressure and production data, fluid contacts, well tests, and reservoir surveillance results to develop and maintain a coherent understanding of reservoir architecture, connectivity, compartmentalization, fluid distribution, and remaining resource potential. The specialist will ensure that static geological interpretations are consistent with dynamic reservoir behavior and will identify uncertainties that materially affect depletion plans, well performance, reserves, and project economics.
  • The role will lead or coordinate subsurface input to field-development plans, depletion strategies, infill drilling, sidetracks, recompletions, workovers, and enhanced-recovery opportunities. Responsibilities include identifying and maturing well opportunities, defining well objectives and target ranges, assessing subsurface risks, supporting well placement, and evaluating post-well results. The individual will work closely with reservoir engineers to integrate geological models with history matching, forecasting, reserves evaluation, and uncertainty analysis.
  • The position will also monitor asset performance against subsurface expectations, investigate production underperformance, and recommend surveillance or intervention activities. Typical applications include identifying bypassed hydrocarbons, evaluating pressure support and sweep efficiency, updating reservoir correlations and property models, and improving estimates of hydrocarbons initially in place and technically recoverable volumes.
  • As a senior integrator, the individual will lead multidisciplinary reviews, challenge competing technical interpretations, document decision risks and assumptions, and communicate recommendations to asset leadership and investment decision-makers. The role will provide technical assurance, mentor less-experienced geoscientists, and promote consistent subsurface workflows and data stewardship.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree in geology, geophysics, petroleum geoscience, or a related discipline.
  • 10 + years of oil and gas industry experience, with significant involvement in field development, reservoir management, or production operations.
  • Strong understanding of reservoir geology, seismic interpretation, petrophysics, structural geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and geological modeling.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate static geological interpretations with pressure, production, well-test, fluid, and reservoir-engineering data.
  • Experience developing and maturing infill, sidetrack, recompletion, and production-optimization opportunities.
  • Working knowledge of volumetrics, reserves and resources classification, uncertainty analysis, reservoir simulation, production forecasting, and economic evaluation.
  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to make recommendations from incomplete or conflicting data.
  • Effective project leadership, stakeholder engagement, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor staff, provide technical assurance, and influence multidisciplinary and leadership decisions.
  • Right to work in the USA
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience with mature-field redevelopment, surveillance planning, waterflood or gas-injection management, enhanced recovery, and late-life asset optimization.
  • Experience supporting well planning, geosteering, drilling operations, formation evaluation, and post-well reviews.
  • Knowledge of static-to-dynamic model integration, history matching, development-scenario evaluation, and probabilistic forecasting.
  • Familiarity with reserves booking and reporting under systems such as the SPE Petroleum Resources Management System and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with applications such as Petrel, Geolog, Eclipse, INTERSECT, Spotfire, Power BI, Python, MATLab or equivalent tools.
  • Experience working with deepwater, conventional clastic, carbonate, fractured, unconventional, or mature producing assets.
  • Demonstrated leadership of integrated subsurface studies, partner reviews, investment decisions, or field-development planning.
  • Recognized technical leadership through mentoring, peer reviews, publications, conference presentations, or subject-matter-expert responsibilities.
