Job summary

Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning seeks an Assistant Director of Planning and Zoning - Development. This senior role oversees development review programs, directs staff, and coordinates strategic initiatives under the Planning and Zoning Officer.

You will supervise a large professional/technical team, represent the department publicly, manage budgets, and drive efficiency in development processes within the county’s regulatory framework.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college with major in public/business administration, planning, or related field; 6+ years in public administration and planning.
• Four+ years of supervisory experience; valid non-commercial MD driver’s license.
• Knowledge of development review, budgeting, and interdepartmental coordination.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing, and directing development review programs.
• Contribute to strategic annual goals, objectives, and priorities.
• Direct departmental initiatives to improve efficiency and operations.
• Review and approve development expenditures; ensure budgetary compliance.
• Supervise staff in design and development activities within the Development Division.
• Represent the department at community meetings and hearings.
• Maintain records and reports; support county strategic plans.
• Lead preparation of policy changes and staff meeting participation.
