Job summary

Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM) is seeking a Development Manager to lead individual giving, oversee the Pearl Society, and nurture donor relationships. The role partners with the CDO, CEO, board, and staff to execute annual development plans and grow major donor capacity.

The position manages the Development Associate and Community Engagement Coordinator, supports signature events, and helps implement cultivation and stewardship strategies across giving channels.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Experience managing development staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build donor relationships and stewardship.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.

Job description

The Development Manager is responsible for leading and managing individual giving, including support of HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians)’s Pearl Society, stewardship of current and prospective annual giving donors, as well as promoting the mission and vision of Health Alliance for Austin Musicians to the greater Austin music community. Additionally, the Development Manager supports sponsorships for HAAM’s signature events. This position will work closely with the Chief Development Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, and development team to implement and execute annual development plans for the organization. This position will also support the development and implementation of strategic cultivation and stewardship plans for individual giving, sustainable giving, and growing other individual gift channels.

The Development Manager manages the Development Associate and Community Engagement Coordinator.

This is an exempt, full-time position reporting to the Chief Development Officer (CDO). There will be occasional evening and weekend hours required.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMMUNITY PRESENCE & EXPERTISE
  • Has a visible presence in the community representing HAAM.
  • Attends events and networking opportunities to reach Pearl Society and annual donors. Develops follow-up plans with contacts to convert donor prospects.
  • Communicates effectively with members of the HAAM staff, board, and donors in a cooperative manner consistent with HAAM’s mission and philosophy.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in special events/fundraising and Austin music-related and non-profit organizations.
MANAGEMENT & SUPERSVISON
  • Supports and manages the Community Engagement Coordinator to maximize Volunteer and 3rd party fundraising opportunities.
  • Supports and manages the Development Associate to ensure accurate data entry/management, stewardship and relationship management of HAAM donors, and management of HAAM volunteers.
CHARITABLE GIVING
  • Works closely with the CEO & CDO to develop an annual fundraising plan and budget.
PEARL SOCIETY
  • Supports Community Engagement Coordinator on execution of Pearl Society Events and Pearl Society administrative-related activities (event production, membership welcome packets, etc.)
  • Maintains and grows membership, including strategy for lapsed donors and donor retention.
  • Builds & develops Pearl Society perks.
INDIVIDUAL GIFTS
  • Researches potential donors to identify and evaluate potential funding sources. Make initial contacts and follow-through as needed.
  • Works closely with the CEO & CDO in moves management and cultivation of donors
  • Develops relationships with prospects and donors through communication strategies and consistent stewardship.
  • Assists CDO in developing strategic funding requests based on short, intermediate and long-term funding goals of the organization for high net worth individuals.
  • Works closely with CDO and marketing team to develop strategy around Amplify Austin (or other giving days)

SIGNATURE EVENTS
  • Share coordination with CDO in stewardship and procurement of sponsorships with a specific focus on relationships between $10k and $25k in support of: HAAM's Annual Spring Signature Event; Corporate Battle of the Bands; HAAM Day Music Festival; Other significant Community Led Events
CRM Database
  • Works with Development Associate to create and analyze reports related to development.
  • Works with CEO and CDO to leverage data to ensure proper stewardship of major donors and annual fund.
  • Works with CDO and Development Associate to run gift acknowledgement process.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES and REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work protracted or irregular hours
  • Ability to drive personal or agency vehicle for agency business and to maintain vehicle liability insurance.
EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must support the Core Values and Mission of HAAM.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop new donor relationships and steward existing donor relationships.
  • Experience in written communication and solicitation of donations and gifts.
  • Approaches daily work with enthusiasm and passion.
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates clear understanding of basic non profit fundraising skills, donor relations, and prospect research.
  • Possesses a collaborative, team-oriented spirit and is willing to pitch in to help with any task needed.
  • Must be proficient in the use of nonprofit technology, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail, Dropbox, Google Drive, and social media platforms.
  • Ability to make decisions and manage projects in a changing and fast paced environment and anticipate future needs, even when limited information and resources are available.
  • Adaptable/flexible to change.
  • Ability to remain poised under pressure.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, solution-oriented problem solving, and willingness to collaborate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Undergraduate college degree preferred in areas of philanthropy-associated areas, marketing, communications, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as a fundraising professional for a nonprofit organization.
  • Minimum 2 years management experience with a preference for managing development staff.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • $70k-$85k salary range (based on experience)
  • Hybrid work schedule with flexibility depending on current projects, with 2-3 days in office each week.
