Job description

About Temple Sinai

Temple Sinai is a vibrant, growing Reform congregation with almost a 60-year history. Sinai is a civic and spiritual institution where community is built—a space where children grow into adults, and adults into elders. Guided by Jewish values, the congregation is a central hub for community life, hosting critical lifecycle moments, providing spiritual guidance, providing Jewish education, and mobilizing support to address needs in Atlanta and around the world.

The Role

As Sinai embarks on celebrating 60 years and beyond, and implementing a new strategic plan, the congregation is seeking a strategic, highly organized Development Manager to build the fundraising infrastructure and ensure it is used to capacity by both lay and professional leadership.

This is a critical role working alongside professional and volunteer partners. This individual will focus on the \"how\" of Sinai’s development—creating and managing processes, structure, and data.In time, this individual may have a small personal donor portfolio.

The ideal candidate can provide the necessary support and strategic guidance to empower the clergy, board members, and volunteer leaders to succeed in relationship-based fundraising, including solicitations. This individual should also have a passion for Judaism, the Jewish community, and synagogue life.

Responsibilities

  • Fundraising Strategy: Create and support the development of comprehensive fundraising strategies, ensuring that all campaigns are coordinated, impactful, and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Relationship Building: Support leaders, lay and professional, to ensure moves management occurs and is documented within Salesforce.

  • Infrastructure & Data Integrity: Partner with staff to ensure Salesforce is utilized as the primary \"system of record\" for donor and member information. Supervise efforts to maintain data hygiene and streamline gift processing and acknowledgment protocols.

  • Internal Support: Provide clergy, board members, staff, and key volunteers with the case-for-support materials, resources needed to conduct effective, relationship-based solicitations, and information to share the impact of philanthropic dollars with donors.

  • Cross-departmental Collaboration: Meet regularly with membership, fundraising, education, and communications staff to share information and ensure a seamless donor and prospect experience.

  • Reporting & Analysis: Track and analyze giving metrics to ensure Sinai is meeting goals for general operating support, special campaigns, and the endowment fund, while focusing on community building.

Qualifications & Experiences

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in development or fundraising.

  • Demonstrated success in building or optimizing internal fundraising structures, processes, and management of workflows.

  • Experience utilizing CRM software (Salesforce preferred) to oversee the management of donor data, track engagement, and perform data hygiene.

  • Ability to provide resources and support a diverse group of stakeholders, including clergy and volunteer leaders, in the art of relationship-based moves management, stewardship, cultivation, and solicitation.

  • Proven ability to thrive in an environment implementing a new strategic plan.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Experience with building professional, authentic relationships with constituents and excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, handle multiple projects, and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

  • Experience partneringwith volunteer leaders and volunteer committees

Ideal Candidate

  • The ideal candidate will possess the persistence, patience, and resilience required to guide leadership while understanding the culture of Temple Sinai.

  • Experience fundraising in Jewish communal service or a congregation.

  • A natural integrator who can effectively support staff and lay leaders with fundraising.

  • Skilled at empowering non-development professionals—specifically clergy, board members, and volunteer leaders to conduct relationship-based solicitations with confidence and ease.

  • Detail-oriented with a passion for building robust, sustainable infrastructure and ensuring the high data integrity of the CRM.

  • Deeply committed to the \"why\" behind the work, focusing on donor impact, community belonging, and Jewish values, rather than viewing the role strictly as transactional.

  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions and rituals, preferred.
