Job summary

NC Local is seeking an experienced Development Director to lead fundraising and major gifts strategy for a statewide newsroom. This remote, NC-based role will own the donor program, build a team, and work closely with the CEO to cultivate major donors and funders across North Carolina.

The role emphasizes strategy, relationship-building, and impact storytelling to support NC Local’s mission and growth. Travel within the state is expected as needed.

Qualifications

• 6+ years nonprofit development experience with major gifts.
• Ability to close individual gifts in five and six figures.
• Excellent donor communications and proposals.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead the major gifts program from the ground up.
• Manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects.
• Develop campaigns that drive transformational gifts.
• Supervise the development team and establish processes.
• Partner with CEO and Board to grow giving and align with strategy.
• Cultivate institutional funders and manage donor relations.
