Job summary

NC Local is seeking an experienced fundraiser and development strategist to lead and grow our philanthropic efforts, with emphasis on major donors. This remote, NC-based role reports to the CEO and will own fundraising strategy while building a portfolio of major donors.

You'll lead a development team, collaborate with editorial, operations and the board, and help NC Local scale into a sustainable statewide institution while advancing local journalism.

Qualifications

• At least 6 years of nonprofit development experience.
• Proven track record closing five- and six-figure gifts.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Ability to lead a development team and partner with the CEO.
• Experience building donor programs for local journalism or public media is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build our major gifts program from the ground up and develop it as one of the primary sources of revenue.
• Develop and carry a portfolio of major donors and prospects who give more than $5,000 annually, meeting regularly for conversations and in-person asks.
• Create and direct campaigns that drive transformational gifts for NC Local's major initiatives.
• Build the prospect pipeline from research through cultivation to close.
• Connect small-dollar giving to the major gifts pipeline to broaden support.
• Design stewardship that keeps donors giving — reporting and recognition.
