The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Development Coordinator for Wilmer Eye Institute to support DAR operations, manage gifts, pledges, and donor data, and assist with reporting.
The role serves as primary contact for the Wilmer Development Office, handles the main phone line and email, coordinates meetings, prepares letters, and contributes to event planning and budget monitoring. Strong attention to detail and CRM proficiency are essential.
The Development Coordinator will provide general support to Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) operations and work under the direction of DAR staff to ensure programs, projects, and initiatives are appropriately supported.
The Development Coordinator for Wilmer Eye Institute holds a pivotal role for the development team and is instrumental to our continued fundraising success. The Development Coordinator is frequently the first member of our team to interact with potential and current donors and sets the tone for their interacting with the development office. The Development Coordinator will report directly to the Development Operations Manager. Key responsibilities of this position are: gift processing, acknowledgement letters, fund management, database management, and reporting. The number of sophisticated donors, the fast pace of the office, and complexity of many prospects requires a high level of independent and critical thinking, attention to detail, flexibility, advanced computer skills, and excellent interpersonal communication.
Wilmer is a unique department with 10 clinics across Maryland and Northern VA and 300,000 outpatient visits per year (10% of all JHM outpatient visits) that generates over 15,000 surgeries annually. Wilmer has roughly 114 Clinical faculty and 49 Research faculty for whom the development team secures philanthropic funds. In addition, the team regularly organizes and manages many Institute-wide, clinic and division (9 sub‑specialty divisions)-specific fundraising priorities, for which each gift officer plays a key role. The team brings in between 1,700 and 2,000 gifts annually.
