Job summary

Historic Jamestowne is seeking a Development Coordinator to advance fundraising and donor engagement. You will coordinate direct-response campaigns, create donor communications, and maintain accurate donor records.

The role also oversees the Foundation’s volunteer program and supports development and education teams. Ideal candidates have a bachelor’s degree in a related field, strong written and verbal communication, and experience with donor CRM systems and fundraising operations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with development colleagues and vendors to implement direct-response fundraising campaigns.
  • Oversees Jamestown Legacy Society program, including mailings, donor recognition, and planned gifts documentation.
  • Partners with the Development Writer to develop persuasive fundraising appeals and multichannel campaigns.
  • Coordinates donor engagement across multiple channels to grow monthly sustainer program and donor retention.
  • Maintains donor database integrity, processes gifts, imports data, updates contacts, and generates reports.
  • Manages the Foundation’s volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, and event coordination.
  • Provides administrative support to Development and Education teams and assists with donor visits and cultivation events.

Job description

The Development Coordinator plays a key role in advancing the Foundation’s fundraising and donor engagement efforts. The position coordinates direct-response fundraising campaigns, creates personal donor engagement and stewardship communications, and is central in managing accurate donor records. In addition, the Development Coordinator oversees the Foundation’s volunteer program.

essential functions
  • Collaborates with development colleagues, and vendors to implement the Foundation’s direct-response fundraising program. Maintains and prepares comprehensive production plans for a variety of giving appeals with in-depth audience segmentation.
  • Oversees growth and administration of the Jamestown Legacy Society program, including appeal mailings, donor recognition, confirmation tracking, and documentation of planned gifts.
  • Partners with the Development Writer to develop persuasive fundraising appeals, including direct mail packages, photo inserts, notecards, and buckslips using graphic design tools.
  • Through a multi-channel approach, coordinates appeal to highlight and expand monthly sustainer program, with a focus on giving importance and retention.
  • Conducts detailed revenue analysis to measure individual appeal results and report on overall campaign success. Provides careful and regular review of complex data.
  • Maintains the integrity of the donor database by processing gift records, importing constituent data, updating contact information, generating exception reports, and ensuring accurate donor recognition and reporting.
  • Enters online and onsite gifts into the database and mails acknowledgements and fulfills premium requests.
  • Manages the Foundation’s volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, training, record-keeping, and team building. Manages Development volunteers in project management and scheduling, and coordinates volunteer help for special events.
  • Provides administrative support to the Development and Education teams. Assists with donor visits and cultivation events, including some weekend and evening gatherings
job requirements and qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in English, History, Archaeology, Communications, or a related field.

Knowledge Requirements:

Excellent written and oral grammar and communication skills required. Background in database administration, audience management, and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel are essential. The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational and project management skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously. The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with colleagues across the organization is critical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting fundraising, donor relations, or development operations.
  • Experience working in museums, historic sites, cultural institutions, higher education, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Familiarity with archaeology, history, preservation, or public history.
  • Experience with donor CRM systems such as Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
  • Graphic design experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.

Special Information:

  • Some travel may be required for donor cultivation.
  • Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities and be willing to work non-standard hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
  • Must have a polished and professional demeanor when representing the Foundation and/or interacting with donors and be comfortable on camera.
metrics of performance

The Development Coordinator works as a member of the specialized Development team to raise money to support Jamestown Rediscovery activities and operating budget. To help meet and exceed the fundraising goals, the coordinator demonstrates timely progress on tasks, consistent tracking of milestones, quality output, attention to detail and adherence to budget.

work location

Jamestown Rediscovery offices located at Jamestown, Virginia.

compensation

This position is a full-time salaried position. Compensation starts at $45,000 annually. The schedule is generally Monday – Friday with some evening and weekend availability required. Benefits include health, dental, short term and long term disability, retirement plan and paid time off.
