Job Description:

The Development Coordinator provides comprehensive fundraising andhigh-level administrative support for the development efforts,including those administered on behalf of one or more strategicinitiatives managed by the Assistant Vice President forDevelopment. In addition, the Coordinator may be responsible forone or more of the following higher-level roles: 1) managing annualDirector's/Chair's Fund efforts for two+ academic units, serving asthe primary liaison to the assigned academic units to execute thesecampaigns and serving as the expert within Advancement for managingsimilar fundraising and/or 2) serving as liaison to one or morefundraising priority areas, handling all aspects of the role,including meeting regularly with the academic lead to develop andadvance fundraising priorities; management of major giftspipelines; providing updated talking points about programs andfunding opportunities to fundraisers for donor cultivation andproposal development; maintaining a repository of updated proposalsto advance these fundraising priorities; managing selected specialevents involving relevant program directors; providing regular giftreports; and/or managing an advisory council.

This role coordinates all aspects of cultivation, solicitation, andstewardship for the academic areas for which the Director(s) ofDevelopment serve(s) as Advancement liaison(s). Theseresponsibilities include: managing major gifts pipelines; providingupdated talking points on programs and funding opportunities tofundraisers for donor cultivation and proposal development;managing selected special events with relevant program directors;providing regular gift reports; and maintaining a repository ofupdated proposals to advance these fundraising priorities. Incollaboration with the donor stewardship team, the Coordinator willhelp ensure appropriate stewardship activities for the programdirectors. In collaboration with the Director(s) of Development,the Coordinator will, as required, help coordinate the President'sAdvisory Councils, with a focus on the Advancement-related aspectsof their work.

As the coordinator for Director's/Chair's Fund Campaigns, thisposition will serve as the primary point of contact in theAdvancement office for initiating and managing the annualfundraising efforts for the assigned academic areas. They will workwith the Advancement marketing, communications, and gift accountingteams, among others, to develop and launch these campaigns, analyzenew fundraising efforts to ensure a robust, growing donor pipelinefor these units, and modify fundraising strategies and approachesas needed. The position will serve as the primary liaison in theAdvancement Division to the leadership within the assigned units todevelop messaging, steward, and cultivate donors, including alumni,parents, and the general public. They will collaborate with otherfundraisers in Advancement to coordinate these efforts with otherfundraising efforts for these donors and work with academicpartners in these units to execute appropriate donor-relatedstewardship. In this role, this position will also serve as aresource within Advancement on the management and execution of theDirector's/Chair's campaigns.

As the liaison to one or more academic units, the Coordinator willserve as the primary point of contact in the Advancement office forthe(se) unit's fundraising efforts, including annual and major giftfundraising, donor stewardship, and engagement of AdvisoryCouncil(s) as needed, particularly around its fundraisingpriorities. They will work with frontline fundraising colleagues tomaintain a robust pipeline of donors for the(se) units, representthe Advancement Division at regular meetings of Advisory Council(s)as needed, work with departmental/unit staff and Advancementcolleagues to execute fundraising campaigns, and work with the unitstaff and the Stewardship team in Advancement to executedonor-related stewardship for the Center.

This position will also provide advanced-level administrativesupport for the Assistant Vice President for Development. Usingknowledge of donor interest and University priorities, thisposition will support donor engagement in coordination with the AVPby drafting briefings and high-level correspondence/proposals, andreviewing and tracking stewardship. This position will handle thefollowing tasks, including but not limited to: meeting/travelarrangements, proposal pipeline maintenance, event support, andtechnical and logistical support to the AVP. This position is alsoresponsible for most information technology tasks and functions insupport of the AVP.

Adherence to Division policies and best practices isexpected.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education andexperience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field such asdevelopment, sales, customer relations, administration, and/orrelevant higher education experience.
  • Knowledge of Blackbaud is a plus.
  • Experience in event management is desired.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for buildingrelationships with external (donors, prospects, trustees) andinternal (deans, faculty, staff, colleagues) constituents. Highlycollaborative in approach.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability toinitiate, collaborate, implement, monitor, evaluate, and supportstrategic plans that support the activities of the program andcontribute to the overall goals and objectives of Advancement andthe fundraising enterprise.
  • Proficient with audio/visual and presentation platforms (Zoom,Microsoft Teams or WebEx, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Expertise in Microsoft and Google platforms, especially GoogleCalendar and email, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, andPowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently with strong project/timemanagement skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer relations and relationship-building skills,and a high level of tact, discretion, and diplomacy required.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the abilityto successfully interact with faculty, senior administration, andhigh-profile alumni.
  • Ability to apply tact and maintain confidentiality.
  • Quantitative experience and ability to work with databases andmanage data.
  • Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings andweekends.
