Job summary

Qualifications

OUR MISSION

Riverside Immigrant Services & Empowerment (Riverside) is an immigrant integration center in New York City that supports the economic mobility and social inclusion of newly arrived immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Our mission is to help immigrants successfully integrate into life in the U.S. by rapidly improving their English language skills, providing wraparound case management and counseling, and offering workforce development training, digital literacy classes, pro bono legal clinic hours, and civics instruction. These supports and skills ensure that Riverside program participants are better positioned to know their rights and access job training, stable employment, higher education, and other meaningful opportunities to help them navigate re-settlement successfully.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Riverside seeks a full‑time Development Associate to support the organization’s fundraising efforts to build capacity and expand programs and services. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, motivated professional interested in advancing their career in nonprofit fundraising. The Development Associate will report to the Director of Development and Executive Director. The successful candidate will be highly detail‑oriented, computer‑savvy, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and able to work both collaboratively with the team and autonomously.

Annual Fund Development
  • Process donations and manage data entry into the CRM database, ensuring accurate gift processing, coding, and record‑keeping and general account maintenance (de‑dupes, complete National Change of Address updates, etc).
  • Create monthly fundraising reports and dashboards using CRM data to communicate accurately with various stakeholders (staff, Board, funders, etc).
  • Prepare acknowledgment letters and relevant development correspondence, such as tailored donor impact reports. Maintain foundation, corporation, and individual donor files in the CRM database, cloud drive, and office files.
  • Conduct preliminary research on prospective individual and institutional donors.
  • Reconcile donation records with the Finance Team monthly.
  • Riverside plans to implement new membership programs during the 2026‑2027 fiscal year. In collaboration with the development team, the Development Associate will support the new annual fund programs in the following ways:
    • Support the development and implementation of acquisition strategies to secure and solicit new donors.
    • Create and distribute communications to maintain and steward supporters.
  • Execute key administrative tasks associated with development operations and communications, as assigned (i.e., schedule committee meetings, etc)
Fundraising Events
  • Coordinate and manage key logistics for fundraising events like the International Food Festival, including but not limited to: venue research, coordinating vendors, managing the registration team, organizing event volunteers & duties, etc.
  • Compile invitation lists and send invitations to development‑related events
  • Track event RSVPs, maintain the event’s primary guest list, and create accurate name tags for confirmed attendees.
  • Support the prospecting of corporate sponsorships for the International Food Festival, Riverside’s largest annual fundraiser.
  • Provide essential on‑site support at fundraising events and execute other event‑related tasks as assigned.
Volunteers & Alumni
  • Ensure proper record‑keeping for volunteers and alumni, tracking engagement in the CRM in addition to any monetary contributions (ie capturing participation hours, etc)
  • Research alumni to identify success stories, mission ambassadors, and potential donors, collaborating with the case management team on initial prospect research lists.
  • Execute other volunteer and alumni tasks related to development and support office‑wide administrative support as needed.
Communications
  • Prepare public‑facing development‑related materials for distribution (i.e., copying, filing, mailing, e‑mailing).
  • Assemble media and donor kits for events and meetings.
  • Create communications and manage mass emails with donors year‑round, including annual campaigns, membership programs, and event‑specific fundraising.
  • Assist in the creation of social media posts related to Riverside campaigns & events.
  • Coordinate external production and mailing of campaign‑related letters, etc.
  • Perform other communication duties related to development.
REQUIREMENTS

A successful candidate will have some combination of the experience and skills listed below:

  • An understanding and commitment to the organization’s mission of supporting and advancing the immigrant community.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. A minimum of 2‑3 years of experience in a fundraising position, preferably in a not‑for‑profit development office.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally—both verbally and in writing—as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to treat all colleagues, key stakeholders, and participants with kindness, compassion, and respect.
  • Experience composing clear and compelling formal communications (ie annual appeals, narrative drafts, acknowledgments, etc).
  • Ability to efficiently manage several projects simultaneously while prioritizing to meet respective deadlines; strong organizational and time‑management skills are required.
  • A proactive task manager and problem solver.
  • Experience working with CRM databases (Kindful, Neon, Raiser’s Edge, Bloomerang, Spektrix, Tessitura, etc)
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace (Word/Google Docs, Excel/Google Sheets, and PowerPoint/Google Slides).
  • Experience with email clients (Constant Contact, Mailchimp, etc.)
  • Experience with social media management tools (Hootsuite, Buffer, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Google AdWords is a plus.
SALARY AND BENEFITS

Riverside is committed to practicing salary transparency. The salary range for this full‑time position (40 hrs per week) is $55,000 - $65,000.
