Job summary

Irene Wortham Center in Asheville, NC 28803 seeks a seasoned fundraising leader to drive all fundraising activities and develop strategies that increase support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources.

You will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors for capital and annual gifts, working closely with the President and CEO, COO, and Board of Directors to achieve fundraising goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of fundraising experience.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, administer, and implement all fundraising activities.
  • Manage the development department with sound systems and procedures.
  • Provide fundraising progress reports to the President/CEO and COO.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual, corporate, and foundation contributions.
  • Identify and write grants for the organization.
  • Cultivate and directly solicit key donors with senior leadership support.
  • Develop annual fundraising plan for Board approval.
  • Prepare and oversee donor communications, case statements, grants, and sponsorship proposals.
  • Coordinate donor receptions and events.
  • Collaborate with HR on volunteer recruitment for fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure donors are thanked and kept informed through newsletters and website.

Position Summary

Provides leadership, management, and coordination for all fundraising efforts. Create fundraising strategies that increase the organization’s support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources. Play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors for capital and annual gifts. Work closely with the President and CEO, Chief Operations Officer, Board of Directors, and other Senior Management staff to achieve the fundraising goals of the organization.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, administer, and implement all fundraising activities of the Irene Wortham Center.
  • Manage the development department in a fiscally sound manner by ensuring that the appropriate systems and procedures are in place.
  • Provide detailed reports about the fundraising progress to the President and CEO, and Chief Operations Officer.
  • Maintain a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation contributions.
  • Identify and write grants for the organization.
  • Cultivate and directly solicit key donors, working with key volunteers as well as the President and CEO, as well as the Chief Operations Officer as appropriate.
  • Develop annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the President and CEO as well as the Chief Operations Officer as appropriate for approval by the Board of Directors.
  • Prepare and/or oversee all direct mail letters, case statements, grants, brochures, and sponsorship proposals required to support fundraising efforts.
  • Coordinate donor patron receptions and events.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources Director on volunteer recruitment for fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure that all donors are appropriately thanked and receive regular communication by making donor stewardship a priority. This may include a newsletter, and an updated website.
  • Serve as a viable spokesperson and advocate for the Center’s mission and program in the funding community.
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Management staff.
  • Increase publicity for the organization.
  • Work with the Board of Directors and President and CEO to set the long range and strategic plan for fundraising.
  • Provides supervision and direction to the Development and Marketing Coordinator.
  • Other Duties as assigned by the Chief Operations Office.

Necessary Special Qualifications
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older and possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Contacts Inside/Outside Organization
  • All IWC/IWRC staff, Board members, parents, other agency personnel, guests, vendors, etc.
