Job summary

Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Duffield, Virginia seeks a Detention Technician for a full-time position at the Duffield Jail Facility. The role involves monitoring communications, controlling access, and maintaining logs within a secure environment.

The incumbent reports to the Shift Commander, Administrative Lieutenant, Chief of Security and Jail Administrator, with duties spanning Master Control Center and Receptionist Post, including public support and coordination with staff

Responsibilities

• Communicate via the facility's telephone, intercom and radio systems with staff, public, visitors, other agencies, and attorneys.
• Control everyone entering and leaving the secure perimeter of the jail by ensuring identification and verifying permission to enter or leave.
• Monitor the emergency system's alarm panels and respond appropriately.
• Maintain required records and logs, including visitors to the facility.
• Assist in Visitation and Control Center as dictated by the facility schedule.
• Respond to and screen incoming facility calls, and direct to appropriate extension.
• Greet public and contact appropriate staff to respond to visitor concerns.
• Assist Mail Officer when needed.
• Assist with other duties and functions of the facility on special projects or tasks as the Jail Administrator makes assignments.

DETENTION TECHNICIAN

Full Time DUFFIELD, Duffield, VA, US

Salary Range: $36,817.00 To $36,817.00 Annually

This is a non-certified position at the Duffield Jail Facility. The sensitive nature of the work requires the incumbent to exercise discretion and retain confidentiality of information obtained by discussions and/or recorded data. Position reports to the Shift Commander, Administrative Lieutenant, Chief of Security and Jail Administrator. Position may be assigned to duties in both the Master Control Center and the Receptionist Post to include public support. Duties include, but are not limited to: communicate via the facility’s telephone, intercom and radio systems with staff, public, visitors, other agencies, and attorneys. Control everyone entering and leaving the secure perimeter of the jail by ensuring identification and verifying his or her permission to enter or leave. Control all internal movements of staff and inmates by remote operation of gates and doors. Monitor the emergency system’s alarm panels and responds appropriately. Maintain required records and logs, including visitors to the facility. May be required to clear inmate count. Issue and receive equipment, keys, and other items according to policies and procedures. Function as the facility’s primary contact person during regular business hours, including scheduling appointments. Respond to and screen incoming facility calls, and direct to appropriate extension. Greet public and contact appropriate staff to respond to visitor concerns. Respond to questions from callers/visitors regarding inmate concerns. Assist in the Visitation and Control Center as dictated by the facility schedule. Assist Mail Officer when needed. Assist with other duties and functions of the facility on special projects or tasks as the Jail Administrator makes assignments.
