Qualifications

  • Must pass physical examination and tuberculin test.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record; DMV points must not reflect six or more within twenty-four months, or one major violation within thirty-six months.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI background check, and education/degree verification.
  • This position is safety sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements operations, services, and activities of the detention home.
  • Manages a team of eleven full-time Youth Counselors; monitors performance and counsels staff.
  • Ensures appropriate staff coverage by scheduling full-time and part-time staff.
  • Conducts ongoing and annual performance evaluations of staff.
  • Responds to crisis situations including physical restraints, medical emergencies, and mental health incidents.
  • Ensures facility policies and procedures are adhered to through appropriate practices.
  • Engages with detention residents through administrative visits and disciplinary hearings.
  • Performs other work as required.

Job description

Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field and two years of experience working with youth in a detention home; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must satisfactorily pass a physical examination and tuberculin test. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview.

Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Under general supervision, this supervisory position performs work of moderate difficulty, significant autonomy, and high liability by planning, coordinating, and implementing the operations, services, and activities of a detention home. Manages a team of eleven full-time Youth Counselors by continually monitoring and evaluating performance, correcting deficiencies, and counseling staff members in accordance with facility and County personnel policies and procedures. Ensures appropriate staff coverage by scheduling full-time and part-time staff. Conducts ongoing and annual performance evaluations of staff. Responsible for managing and responding to all crisis situations to include physical restraints, medical emergencies, and mental health incidents. Ensures facility policies and procedures are adhered to through appropriate practices. Engages with detention residents through administrative visits and disciplinary hearings. Performs other work as required.
