Job summary

Gila County Detention Facility is seeking a Detention Officer to ensure the security of inmates and staff, manage bookings and releases, and oversee daily operations in a jail setting.

Responsibilities include monitoring inmate behavior, maintaining safety protocols, transporting inmates for court appearances, and documenting all activities to ensure compliance with procedures and legal requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Six months relevant experience required.
• Complete the Detention Officer Basic Course within one year of hire.
• Must pass semi-annual firearms course and maintain CPR certification.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
• Background checks, medical, polygraph, and other examinations required before appointment.

Responsibilities

• Observe inmates for rule violations and behavioral changes; maintain use-of-force continuum as needed.
• Schedule, supervise, and control inmate activities; diffuse potentially violent situations and escort inmates as needed.
• Supervise safety and security of staff, inmates, visitors and detention facilities; monitor inmate conduct.
• Inspect all detention areas to ensure safety, sanitation and contraband-free environment.
• Provide inmate care: dispense meals, oversee hygiene and medical appointments; coordinate transportation for appointments.
• Process inmate bookings and releases; handle property inventories and records.
