Qualifications

• Six months of relevant detention or security experience.
• Must complete Detention Officer Basic Course within one year of hire (Arizona Detention Academy).
• Must possess a valid Driver's License and maintain CPR/first aid certifications.

Responsibilities

• Observes inmates for rule violations and behavioral changes; maintains appropriate use-of-force continuum.
• Schedules, supervises, and controls inmate activities and maintains discipline; diffuses potentially violent situations; may restrain inmates and escort them outside facility.
• Supervises safety and security of staff, inmates, visitors and detention facilities; promotes acceptable attitudes and monitors behavior of inmates.
• Performs constant inspections of all detention facility areas; ensures areas are safe, secure, sanitary and free of contraband.
• Provides care for inmates; dispenses meals; administers medications; schedules medical and other appointments; arranges transport for appointments and visits outside of facility.
• Conducts booking of inmates, completes forms; searches, examines and tests inmates; collects and inventories property; maintains records.
• Processes authorized release of detainees; returns property to inmates; verifies documentation; files and distributes records.
• Updates and maintains files, logs, charts, and other documents; prepares reports as required.
