City of Alvin seeks a Detention Officer to maintain the jail facility under direct supervision, following established procedures to ensure care, custody and control of prisoners and public safety. Reports to the Detention Supervisor.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with up to six months of jail operations experience. This is an Emergency Essential position per City policy, requiring readiness during emergencies.
Under direct supervision, maintains the City jail facility and follows established procedures and policies to ensure the Care, Custody and Control of prisoners, as well as the safety and well-being of City personnel and the public. The incumbent must be able to exercise independent judgment and perform duties according to detailed instructions with strict adherence to prescribed standards and procedures, without close supervision. Reports directly to the Detention Supervisor.
Requires a high school diploma or GED supplemented by up to six months of experience in jail operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
The Detention Officer is classified as an "Emergency Essential" position as described in the City of Alvin's Personnel Policy Manual. These employees may be required to remain or respond in the event of emergency conditions and be available immediately before (Pre-Impact), during (Emergency Period), and/or after the disaster or emergency condition (Post Impact/Recovery), to perform duties directly related to the emergency conditions as determined by the City.
Starting salary is $17.98
