Job summary

The Denver Sheriff Department is seeking a Detention Facility Maintenance Superintendent to oversee the Downtown Detention Center and the County Jail, leading a 15–20 person facilities team in a complex correctional environment.

This role operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with on-call duties for emergencies; background checks are required, and oversight includes safety, security, and budget considerations.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED; experience: 4 years supervising skilled trades.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Background investigation will be conducted as part of the hiring process.

Responsibilities

• Directs and supervises trade supervisors and skilled trades staff responsible for maintenance of facility buildings, grounds, infrastructure, equipment, and security systems.
• Establishes performance goals, assigns work, evaluates staff, and provides technical guidance to ensure efficient operations.
• Develops and implements policies and plans supporting facility operations, safety, security, and departmental objectives.
• Coordinates maintenance projects with facility administration, security, contractors, and outside agencies, minimizing disruptions.
• Sets work priorities, schedules, and staffing to ensure timely maintenance and repair work while maintaining facility coverage.
• Reviews completed work for quality and safety; promotes safe practices and continuous improvement.
• Resolves operational issues and conflicts; promotes teamwork and compliance with rules.
• Assists with budget development, monitors expenditures, and adjusts plans to meet needs and constraints.
• Monitors contractor activities for contract compliance and safety.
