Job summary

Barron County is seeking a Jail Officer to supervise inmates at the Barron County Jail, ensuring a safe, secure, and sanitary environment in accordance with procedures under the Jail Sergeants and Captain. This is a non-law enforcement position.

This role requires knowledge of security, inmate rights, records, and the ability to respond to emergencies while maintaining accurate documentation and coordinating with medical and kitchen staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must obtain Wisconsin Jail Officer Certification within one year of hire.
• Successful completion of background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmates and maintain a safe, secure, and sanitary environment.
• Perform bookings, searches, counts, and oversight of inmate housing assignments.
• Respond to emergencies and enforce jail rules and procedures.
• Maintain documentation and jail logs with accuracy.
• Coordinate with medical, kitchen, and administrative staff as needed.
• Manage access control and supervise inmate workers and visitors.
