Job summary

Sarasota County is seeking an on-site Desktop Support Technician to troubleshoot and resolve Tier 2 hardware, software, and connectivity issues across county facilities. You will deploy and support computers, peripherals, and documentation, while collaborating with EIT teams on high-priority issues and training.

A valid Florida driver’s license is required. The ideal candidate holds an associate or bachelor’s degree with related IT experience and certifications such as Microsoft 365 Modern

• Create and update technical documentation and support procedures
• Participate in projects including testing, deployment, and training
• Provide onsite support for priority incidents and operational needs
• Participate in 24/7/365 on-call rotation
• Maintain knowledge through training and self-directed learning

About the Position

• Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 2 hardware, software, connectivity, and technology service requests
• Provide onsite technical support across County facilities while operating an assigned County vehicle
• Prepare, configure, deploy, replace, and support computers and peripherals as part of technology refresh and deployment programs
• Collaborate with EIT teams and expand complex or high-priority issues as needed
• Create, maintain, and update technical documentation, knowledge articles, and support procedure
• Participate in EIT projects and technology implementations, including testing, deployment, documentation, and training
• Provide onsite technical support for priority incidents, operational needs, and other EIT activities
• Participate in the 24/7/365 on-call rotation
• Maintain and expand technical knowledge through training, research, and self-directed learning
• Operate and maintain an assigned County vehicle

Work Hours

Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Involved in on-call technical support rotation with other Desktop Support staff. As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

• Two (2) year degree -AND- Two (2) years of work experience as a desktop support technician or related role
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Administration, Management, Business, Engineering, Communications, Project Management or other relevant field with some related experience
• Four (4) years of related work experience may substitute for the formal education requirement at the discretion of management
• Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire

The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

• Microsoft 365 Certified Modern Desktop Administrator Associate or equivalent
• CompTIA A+ Certified
• Experience with Dell computers, monitors and peripherals (hardware & software)

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment for a period of five years.

CJIS Clearance: The successful candidate will be subject to an extensive background check(s) as a part of the hiring process.

Physical Demands

Employees in this role must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Employees can use handling devices (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessive poundage of 50-plus pounds.

Starting Pay Range: $31.16/hour
