Job summary

McKay Brothers seeks a hands-on Desktop Support professional at our Oakland, CA headquarters. This full-time, onsite role reports to the IT/Facilities Manager and involves hardware installation, OS/software provisioning, and network setup for staff desktops.

Responsibilities include maintaining documentation, training users, and managing productivity software with cloud interfaces. Prior desktop support experience and cloud tooling familiarity are essential for success.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree with hardware/OS experience or 3-5 years work experience.
• Prior experience in desktop support and/or Microsoft certification.
• Windows, Apple, Android, and Linux (limited) operating systems are used.
• Familiarity with cloud environments (Google, Microsoft, etc.).
• Experience with Jira or other ticketing system.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support related to staff desktops and facilities needs.
• Install new hardware components for desktops and set up OS/software.
• Configure network connections to desktops and maintain documentation.
• Train and support use of productivity software and cloud-based tools.
• Track tasks through Jira from creation to closure.

Job description

The McKay Group is a global leader in low-latency market data and network connectivity, operating at the intersection of high-frequency finance and cutting-edge technology.

We have an immediate opening for a Desktop Support position at the US headquarters in Oakland, California. This is a full-time onsite position and will report directly to the IT/Facilities Manager.

The desktop/technical support responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing technical support related to staff desktop and facilities needs
• Using AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini in administrative tasks
• Installing new hardware components for desktops
• Installing operating systems and software in the desktop
• Setting up network connections to desktops
• Maintaining support documentation and training
• Training, debugging, and support use of productivity software - this includes Cloud based Enterprise and individual client level software.
• Track efforts through our ticketing system (Jira) - including ticket creation, follow-up, document, and closing completed tasks

The business support function is wide-ranging and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Remote field operations support.
• Facilities management (moves, desks, chairs, power, etc.) – this function of the role will require physical demands including bending, squatting and lifting up to 50 pounds
• 4-year degree with some hardware/OS experience or 3-5 years work experience
• Prior experience in desktop support role and/or Microsoft certification
• Windows, Apple, Android, and Linux (limited) operating systems are used.
• Expectation is you have enough experience in one, or more, OS to learn the others quickly.
• Prior experience in cloud administrative interfaces and settings:
• Google, Microsoft, and other cloud environments are used.
• Experience with Jira or other ticketing system
• Ability to manage and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
• Self-starting mindset toward all duties
• Systematic problem-solving approach and excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini is important

Employees will be required to complete a probationary period.

The Oakland, CA base salary range for this full-time non-exempt position is$70-90k. Our salary ranges are determined by role, career level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
