Job summary

SmithGroup, the Washington, DC office, seeks a Desktop Specialist to join our IT team. This in-office role supports local and remote employees, troubleshoots Windows, M365, and hardware issues, and leads new employee orientations.

The ideal candidate has an associate's degree or equivalent, 2–4 years in IT, strong communication, and a proactive, collaborative approach to problem solving. Eligible for a competitive benefits package and PTO.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience in IT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a great customer service attitude.
  • Strong initiative and ability to be a self-starter; work with minimal supervision.

  • Demonstrates ability to learn new skills.
  • Strong problem solving ability.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and solve network, software and hardware issues in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Handle IT support requests and questions from employees in SmithGroup offices or remotely.
  • Troubleshoot and solve issues within Microsoft 365 (MS Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint) environment.
  • Conduct new employee orientations.
  • Setup, configure and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and network accounts.

The Washington, DC office of SmithGroup is looking for a Desktop Specialist to join our team. As an IT team member, you will work directly with local office employees as well as remotely support SmithGroup employees in all offices around the country. Working with a firm wide team, you will collaborate on projects and initiatives, improve workflows, develop standards as well as evaluate and use cases for new technologies across the entire firm. This is a fully in-office position.

Working with us you will:
  • Troubleshoot and solve network, software and hardware issues in a Microsoft Windows environment
  • Handle IT support requests and questions from employees working in SmithGroup offices or remotely
  • Troubleshoot and solve network, software and hardware issues working within the Microsoft M365 environment including MS Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint online
  • Conduct new employee orientations
  • Setup, configure and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, and network accounts
  • Instruct employees on the proper use of IT equipment and software
  • Support employees in a hybrid work environment assisting with virtual meetings/video conferencing and troubleshooting connectivity issues
  • Regularly attend web conferences and collaborate with other IT staff in other offices across the country
  • Assist in moving IT equipment to different locations within the office
  • Work collaboratively with other IT members to solve problems and improve workflows
  • Engage in a team-oriented approach using shared knowledge, best practices and organizational awareness
  • Be a valued contributor, improving workflows and creating documentation for SmithGroup
An ideal candidate:

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $23.56 to $25.00 per hour. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week and a performance-based bonus each year.
