Job summary

Cruit Group is seeking a Desktop Deployment Engineer in Chicago for a 6-month contract, with hybrid/onsite work as needed. The role focuses on validating, testing, and supporting EUC/VDI environments, balancing deployment expertise with QA workflows.

You will manage a QC/test environment, execute deployment test plans for desktop image modernizations, and develop standardized processes and runbooks for enterprise workstation initiatives. Strong PowerShell and communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Validate, test, and support VDI images, remote app delivery, and profile management across virtual desktop platforms.
• Build, manage, and execute deployment test plans for application packaging, system rollouts, software updates, and regression testing.
• Maintain and manage a dedicated test/QC environment, documenting deployment processes from current to future state.
• Create high-quality documentation, deployment runbooks, and test checklists for cross-functional teams.
• Partner with Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Support to report and track issues across modernization projects.

Role: Desktop Deployment Engineer

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid / On-site as needed)

Type: 6-Month Contract initial

Pay Rate: $50-65/HR, depending on experience level. 40 hours per week.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Desktop Deployment Engineer for a 6-month contract role focused on validating, testing, and supporting modern End-User Computing (EUC) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments. This role sits at the intersection of Desktop Engineering and Quality Assurance—prioritizing strong EUC/VDI deployment and technical expertise over rigid software QA methodologies.

The ideal candidate will manage a QC/test environment, execute deployment test plans for desktop image modernizations, and build standardized processes and runbooks to be used across corporate workstation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Deployment & Image Testing: Validate, test, and support VDI images, remote application delivery, and profile management across virtual desktop platforms.
• Quality Control & Validation: Build, manage, and execute deployment test plans for application packaging, system rollouts, software updates, and regression testing.
• Environment & Process Management: Maintain and manage a dedicated test/QC environment independently, documenting current-to-future state deployment processes.
• Documentation & Checklists: Create high-quality documentation, deployment runbooks, and test checklists for cross-functional analyst teams.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Support teams to report, track, and escape technical issues across concurrent modernization projects.

Required Qualifications & Technical Skills

• Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI):
• Hands-on administration with Omnissa Horizon (formerly VMware Horizon), Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), or Windows 365 Cloud PC.
• VDI gold image management and remote application delivery concepts.
• Experience with FSLogix profile containers is a plus.
• Endpoint Management & Systems:
• Microsoft Endpoint Manager / ConfigMgr (SCCM) and Windows 11 image engineering.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune / AutoPilot and application packaging/deployment.
• On-premises Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
• Cloud & Azure Fundamentals:
• Knowledge of Azure Virtual Desktop architecture, Azure networking, storage, Entra ID integration, and hybrid identity setups.
• Testing, Scripting & Operations:
• Proven track record in deployment verification, test plan execution, and defect management.
• Ability to run and utilize PowerShell scripts for automation and deployment validation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Citrix administration experience.
• Experience with Nerdio Manager for AVD or advanced FSLogix troubleshooting.
• Exposure to legal industry application testing and deployment (e.g., iManage, Litera, Intapp, Aderant).
• Hands-on experience migrating workloads between distinct VDI platforms.
