Job summary

Johnson Service Group is seeking a contract Designer III to work in Gainesville, TX. This role coordinates design of seats and seat components, interfaces with the Program Manager on project development and design progress, and reviews requirements to ensure conformance with specifications and deadlines.

The candidate will use CATIA V5 or Pro/Engineer, prepare layouts and drawings, and collaborate with customers and vendors while mentoring junior engineers to ensure on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Aerospace/Automotive Engineering or related field; 12 years experience may be substituted.
  • Master's degree in the same fields is acceptable.
  • 5 years of related design experience with a Bachelor's; 4 years with a Master's.
  • Excellent drafting skills in CATIA V5 or Pro/Engineer; knowledge of aircraft seat products.
  • Ability to read and review written communication; strong written English; able to work with multiple departments.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers; good planning and prioritizing skills; strong collaboration.
  • Desirable: APQP, DFMEA, Control Plan

Job description

Johnson Service Group is seeking a contract Designer III to work in Gainesville, TX location. This position performs design coordination of seats and seat components. Coordinates between various customers and vendors. Interfaces with Program Manager on project development and design progress. Reviews customer requirements and specification and relates them to product design. Monitors day-to-day design progress as required. Assures conformity of product and that engineering deadlines are met. Works and makes decisions independently with little supervision.

2. Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities) Main Function Responsibilities:
  • A) Confers with customers and vendors on conceptual configuration and initial design requirements for various new and on-going seat programs.
  • B) Reviews design specifications and incorporates into assigned product.
  • C) Prepares lay-outs of overall design task including structural and articulation systems.
  • D) Defines design standards to maintain commonality with existing product line.
  • E) Defines and sets goals as to complete tasks as expeditiously as possible.
  • F) Prepares advanced bill of materials and long-lead item list.
  • G) Review design package to assure conformance to latest specifications and regulations.
  • H) Prepares drawings for release.
  • I) Assumes liaison duties when product reaches the various manufacturing stages.
  • J) Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements 3. Qualification Requirements
A. Education & Qualification-
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree (minimum of 12 years equivalent related engineering experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree)
  • Or must have a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Design Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Mechanical and Energy Engineering or a related engineering degree.
B. Work Experience - Technical knowledge-
  • plus an additional 5 years of related design experience required with Bachelors degree.
  • plus an additional 4 years of related design experience required with Masters degree.
C. Professional Skills-
  • Must have excellent drafting skills in CATIA V5 (or higher) and/or Pro/Engineer.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of aircraft seat products.
  • Must have good knowledge of materials and production processes, and mechanical knowledge of parts and stress conditions.
  • Requirement have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment.
  • Ability to read and review written communication.
  • Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.
D. Behavioral Skills-
  • Must be able to interact successfully with engineering, tooling, and manufacturing departments.
  • Must be able to function as part of a design team.
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Must possess good planning and prioritizing skills.
E. Desirable Aspects-
  • APQP, D&PFMEA, Control Plan, etc.
