Job summary

Pike Engineering in Fort Mill, SC seeks an experienced Substation P&C Design professional to create detailed substation drawings and supervise junior designers. You will interpret complex P&C designs for voltages up to 500kV, ensure conformance to client specifications, and coordinate with multiple disciplines.

The role requires strong CAD skills, project scheduling, and budget awareness, with leadership responsibilities and site-visits as needed.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years experience in CAD design.
• Proven AutoCAD and/or MicroStation skills.

Responsibilities

• Create substation P&C design drawings per client standards and industry best practices.
• Interpret P&C designs for utility stations through 500kV including one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and SCADA.
• Interpret written specifications and implement them in engineering drawings.
• Understand equipment arrangements in substation design.
• Oversee work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters.
• Check designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards.
• Collaborate with other design disciplines and communicate effectively.
• Visit sites to advise on design issues.
• Manage budgets and project schedules.

Job description

Position Overview: Provide substation protection and control design, technical support, and coordination to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design and drafting projects. Provide technical competency on complex problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems, and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects and manage project schedules and budgets.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Create substation P&C design drawings from client standards and industry best practices for substation projects
• Ability to read and interpret P&C designs for utility stations through 500kV, including one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and SCADA
• Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them in engineering drawings
• Basic understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements
• Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters
• Experience checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
• Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines
• Visit sites and advise on design issues
• Manage budgets and project schedules

Requirements

• 5-7 Year(s) experience in CAD Design
• Proven Autocad and/or Microstation skills
