Job summary

Pike Engineering is seeking a substation design professional to provide protection and control design, technical support, and coordination for a team delivering safe, cost-effective projects including substations, battery energy storage, and solar collector sites.

You will read and interpret P&C designs up to 500 kV, develop drawings from client standards, oversee junior staff, and manage budgets and schedules while collaborating with other disciplines and visiting sites as needed.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of CAD design experience in utility/substation projects.
• Proficiency with Autocad and/or Microstation required.
• Experience overseeing junior designers and drafters.

Responsibilities

• Create substation P&C design drawings from client standards and industry best practices.
• Read and interpret P&C designs for utility stations up to 500 kV (one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, layouts).
• Interpret written specifications into engineering drawings and ensure accuracy.
• Provide leadership to the design team and mentor junior staff.
• Collaborate with other disciplines and visit sites to advise on design issues.
• Manage project budgets and schedules.

Position Overview:

Provide substation protection and control design, technical support, and coordination to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design and drafting projects. Provide technical competency on complex problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems, and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects and manage project schedules and budgets.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Create substation P&C design drawings from client standards and industry best practices for substation projects
• Ability to read and interpret P&C designs for utility stations through 500kV, including one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and SCADA
• Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them in engineering drawings
• Basic understanding of substation design to include equipment arrangements
• Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters
• Experience checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
• Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines
• Visit sites and advise on design issues
• Manage budgets and project schedules

Requirements

• 5-7 Year(s) experience in CAD Design
• Proven Autocad and/or Microstation skills
