Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced designer to work on ship modification drawings and electrical design. You will utilize AutoCAD and other CAD tools to develop and refine components, ensuring manufacturability and compliance with government data.

Travel to Naval bases for pier side checks and surveys is required. The role requires a High School Diploma or GED with 5 years of experience, or an Associate degree with 1 year of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret government and vendor data and apply drawings procedures and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Utilizes CAD/CAM/CATIA tools to create rough layouts and presentation drawings; coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning groups.
  • Involves in electrical design and development of drawings for ship modification and overhauls; follow applicable drawings procedures and standards.
  • Travel to numerous Naval Bases to support pier side shipchecking and surveys.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Seeking an individual who is proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word. Applicant will be directly involved in electrical design and development of drawings associated with ship modification and overhauls. Applicant will be responsible for following applicable drawings procedures and standards. Applicant will also be responsible for locating, interpreting and applying government and vendor-furnished information and technical data into during development of functional electrical design drawings. Travel to numerous Naval Bases will be required to support pier side shipchecking and surveys.

Must Have

High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience

Associates degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 1 year experience

Nice to Have

Familiarity with US Navy Power, Lighting, Interior Communication, and Control Systems is preferred. One that possess an understanding in ship design and blueprint reading.
