Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding, a division of HII, seeks an Electrical Design Engineer to design components and modify systems for ships, leveraging CAD/CAM tools such as CATIA and AutoCAD. The role supports manufacturing and ship modification projects in a fast-paced environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma with 7 years of experience or an associate degree with 3 years, plus readiness to travel to Naval bases and to work on site in Pascagoula, MS. U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 7+ years of experience, or an Associate degree with 3+ years.
  • Experience in electrical design and familiarity with shipboard systems is preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (AutoCAD, CATIA) and MS Office suite.

Responsibilities

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.
  • Gathers information, performs studies, and coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning groups.

The Role

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

A basic understanding of ship design practices and blueprint reading skills is required. Applicant will be directly involved in electrical design and development of drawings associated with ship modification and overhauls. Applicant will be responsible for following applicable drawings procedures and standards. Applicant will also be responsible for locating, interpreting and applying government and vendor-furnished information and technical data into during development of functional electrical design drawings. Travel to numerous Naval Bases will be required to support pier side shipchecking and surveys.

Must Have
  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience
  • -or-
  • Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience
Nice to Have
  • Familiarity with US Navy Power Interior Communication, and Control Systems is preferred. One that possesses an understanding in ship design (CG, LPD, LHA/LHD & LCS). Seeking an individual with a background in Electrical Design and who is proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word.
