Job summary

Scion Staffing, Inc. seeks a Designer to join a collaborative creative team developing fashion-forward headwear for women, men, and children. You will contribute from concept to pre-production, with trend research, mood boards, CAD illustrations and technical packs.

The role emphasizes translating inspiration into commercially viable products, working within a hybrid schedule (1 WFH day/week) in Carlsbad, CA, and collaborating with Sales Managers and leadership across product categories.

Qualifications

• Strong fashion industry design background with a focus on women's fashion, apparel, accessories or headwear.
• Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop; InDesign and other tools a plus.
• Hands-on experience taking products through the full design, development and production lifecycle.
• Ability to develop mood boards, color stories, CAD illustrations, technical specs and viable concepts.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, multi-project management and clear concept presentation.

Responsibilities

• Research, conceptualize, and design multi-seasonal product lines with mood boards, color palettes, trend direction and concepts.
• Translate concepts into CAD illustrations, technical drawings, sketches, line sheets and tech packs.
• Collaborate with Sales Managers and design leadership to align programs with brand direction.
• Manage product development from concept through pre-production: samples, specs, materials, construction, pricing and margins.
• Communicate with factory partners to ensure designs are executed per creative and technical specs.
• Stay current on fashion and retail trends through market research, store visits, and occasional travel.

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Designer for an established international fashion and accessories wholesaler with a longstanding presence in the industry. This is a full-time, direct-hire, hybrid opportunity based in Carlsbad, CA, with one work-from-home day per week.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Designer will join a collaborative creative team developing fashion-forward headwear for women, men, and children, with a strong emphasis on women's fashion and design. This role is heavily focused on creative concept development, including trend research, mood boards, color palettes, CAD illustrations, and translating inspiration into commercially viable products. The Designer will contribute throughout the product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through development and pre-production approval.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Research, conceptualize, and design multi-seasonal product lines, developing mood boards, color palettes, trend direction, and original concepts for key accounts.
• Translate creative concepts into professional CAD illustrations, technical drawings, sketches, line sheets, and detailed tech packs.
• Collaborate closely with Sales Managers and design leadership to develop and execute customer programs that align with brand and market direction.
• Manage product development from initial concept through pre-production, including samples, specifications, materials, construction details, pricing, and margin considerations.
• Communicate with factory partners throughout development to ensure designs are accurately executed according to creative and technical specifications.
• Stay current on fashion and retail trends through market research, competitive store visits, customer meetings, and occasional domestic travel.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong fashion industry design background, ideally within women's fashion, apparel, accessories, or headwear, with a strong creative and trend-focused eye.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with InDesign and other creative design tools is a plus.
• Hands-on experience taking products through the full design, development, and production lifecycle.
• Ability to develop mood boards, color stories, CAD illustrations, technical specifications, and commercially viable product concepts.
• Strong attention to detail and organization, with the ability to manage multiple projects, collaborate effectively, work independently, and professionally present creative concepts and product lines.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers an annual salary of $76,000–$85,000, with potential flexibility for an exceptional candidate.

Typical office hours are approximately 8:00 AM–4:30 PM or 8:30 AM–5:00 PM.
