Description

Commercial Cabinet Designer

Level Countertops, Cabinets & Flooring
Elkhorn, NE

Position Overview

Level Countertops, Cabinets & Flooring is seeking a Commercial Cabinet Designer with strong experience in commercial cabinetry, millwork, casework, and project documentation.

This role is focused primarily on commercial cabinet design and production-ready drawings, including interpreting architectural plans, developing detailed cabinet layouts, coordinating project requirements, and preparing accurate designs for estimating, fabrication, and installation.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience designing commercial cabinetry and is proficient in Mozaik, Cabinet Vision, or similar cabinet design and manufacturing software. This position works closely with Project Managers, estimators, shop personnel, installers, contractors, and other project stakeholders to ensure designs are accurate, buildable, and aligned with project specifications.

Essential Functions
Commercial Cabinet Design & Drafting
  • Create detailed commercial cabinetry, casework, and millwork designs from architectural drawings, specifications, field measurements, and project requirements.
  • Develop accurate floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and production-ready drawings using Mozaik, Cabinet Vision, or comparable cabinet design software.
  • Interpret architectural plans, construction documents, shop drawings, and specifications for commercial projects.
  • Design cabinetry for commercial environments such as offices, retail spaces, healthcare facilities, hospitality projects, tenant improvements, and other commercial applications.
  • Ensure designs account for materials, hardware, clearances, construction methods, field conditions, and installation requirements.
  • Revise drawings throughout the project based on RFIs, field measurements, customer revisions, architectural changes, or project coordination needs.
  • Assist with commercial bid requests by reviewing plans, specifications, and project scope.
  • Prepare accurate material takeoffs, design information, and supporting documentation for estimating and quoting.
  • Identify potential design conflicts, missing information, or constructability concerns early in the process.
  • Coordinate design requirements with Project Managers and estimators to ensure scope and pricing align.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, revisions, and project files throughout the design process.
Production & Order Preparation
  • Prepare approved designs for fabrication and production.
  • Review drawings and order information for accuracy before materials are released or production begins.
  • Coordinate closely with cabinet shop and production teams to ensure drawings clearly communicate construction intent.
  • Confirm hardware, materials, finishes, dimensions, and other critical specifications.
  • Support CNC or production workflows where applicable based on software capabilities and shop processes.
Project Coordination
  • Work closely with Project Managers, contractors, architects, field personnel, installers, and internal teams to resolve design and coordination issues.
  • Incorporate field measurements and site conditions into final drawings.
  • Participate in project meetings as needed to clarify design intent, scope, schedules, and installation requirements.
  • Communicate proactively when information is missing or when design changes may affect cost, production, or schedule.
Quality & Accuracy
  • Perform detailed reviews of drawings before approval or release.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy across dimensions, materials, hardware, specifications, and project documentation.
  • Ensure designs meet company standards, project requirements, and applicable architectural plans.
  • Help reduce rework by identifying design and constructability concerns before fabrication.

This role is primarily based in an office/design environment and works closely with commercial project management and production teams.

Occasional visits to jobsites, customer locations, or the cabinet shop may be required for field verification, project coordination, or measurements.

Required Education & Experience
  • 3+ years of commercial cabinetry, casework, millwork, or related design experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience designing cabinetry for commercial construction projects.
  • Proficiency in Mozaik, Cabinet Vision, or similar cabinet design/manufacturing software.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, elevations, sections, and specifications.
  • Understanding of commercial cabinet construction, materials, hardware, and installation requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience creating shop drawings and production-ready commercial cabinet drawings.
  • Experience with CNC, cut-list, or cabinet manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience with commercial millwork, architectural casework, tenant improvement, retail, healthcare, hospitality, or similar construction projects.
  • Familiarity with countertops, solid surfaces, flooring, and related interior finish products.
  • Associate Degree, Bachelor's Degree, or technical training in Drafting, Architecture, Interior Design, Construction Management, Cabinetmaking, or a related field.
  • Experience coordinating directly with general contractors, architects, Project Managers, and field teams.
Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate for this position is someone who understands that commercial cabinet design is about more than creating an attractive layout. It requires accuracy, constructability, coordination, and the ability to turn architectural plans and project requirements into clear drawings that can be successfully fabricated and installed.

We are looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, asking questions early, identifying potential issues, and taking ownership of the accuracy of their designs.
