Job summary

U.S. Facilities, Inc. seeks a Marine/Maritime Designated Duty Engineer for the Jamestown/Surry ferry operations. You will monitor main engines and auxiliary systems to keep passengers, crew, and property safe.

The role requires MMC-endorsed Designated Duty Engineer for 3000 HP, Coast Guard credentials, TWIC, and CPR/First Aid. You may work from either river side; 90-day probation and emergency duty expectations apply.

Qualifications

  • Must operate and monitor main engines and auxiliary machinery on ferries.
  • Familiar with vessels 200 ft / 800 tons or more.
  • Knowledge of USCG ferry regulations.
  • Able to train others and maintain records and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Vessel machinery management and minor repairs; inform Captain of deficiencies.
  • Operate machinery per USCG/VDOT regs and best practices.
  • Conduct drills and crew training; ensure readiness for inspections.
  • Maintain fuel readings and engineering logs daily.
  • Ensure vessel security and respond to emergencies; oversee access control.
  • Assist passengers and resolve issues professionally.
  • Be prepared for emergency operations outside normal hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/PM.
