Job summary

Portland General Electric is hiring a Manager of Design Project Management in the Portland and Gresham area. The role leads design project managers, designers and technicians delivering electrical distribution and transmission designs that meet customer requirements.

You will oversee engineering, inspection, construction and cost-control activities while guiding policy and strategy for pole management and joint use with other utilities.

Qualifications

• Requires bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, project management, design or related field.
• Eight+ years in transmission and distribution design or related field; project management or supervisory experience preferred.
• Requires a valid driver’s license and a history of safe driving practices.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of design project managers, lighting design PMs, designers and design technicians to deliver electrical distribution and transmission designs meeting customer requirements.
• Oversee design project management across engineering, inspection, construction and cost-control activities; ensure sound design packages and tariff adherence.
• Develop and implement policies and strategic plans for pole management services and joint use with utilities; analyze issues and craft risk-minimizing strategies.
• Manage customer relationships and communications, addressing questions on design projects and accommodating customer needs.
• Coordinate with other departments and external stakeholders; provide expert consulting and ensure alignment with tariffs and rules.
• Lead safety initiatives in project planning and field operations; supervise storm response and emergency coordination when required.
• Assist with budgeting, resource planning, and performance management; mentor staff and conduct regular development reviews.
