Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a Design Phase Engineer I or II to join our team in Minneapolis, MN. This role supports project leadership during the design phase related to customer experience, financial performance, schedule, estimating, design and planning to ensure a smooth transition to construction.

Design Phase Engineers participate in negotiations, budgeting, scheduling, regulatory approvals, bidding, and cross-functional collaboration. Travel up to 25% may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, or Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, Estimating, or equivalent field.
• Intermediate MS Office and MS Project skills.
• Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Support and potentially lead EPC contract negotiations with customers, including aligning scope and budget with schedule and integrated team.
• Assist in establishing and managing project budget and scope expectations, budget trending logs, and communications.
• Craft and manage project schedules and key milestones, hold team members accountable for milestones.
• Assist in regulatory approval and permitting process.
• Assist in the preparation of bid packages and contract manuals.
• Support bid analysis and subcontractor selection.
• Identify technical design and specification concerns and escalate for resolution.
• Build relationships across diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• All other duties as assigned.
