Job summary

Foundation Medicine in Boston, MA seeks a Design Operations Lead to build and run a scalable design capability across Technology Enablement. You will own tooling, workflows, and governance, coordinating internal and external design resources to deliver reports, portals, and digital experiences.

You’ll drive improvements in the design toolchain, collaborate with product and engineering teams, forecast demand and capacity, and ensure high-quality, accessible design outcomes while upholding FMI

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, or related field; professional experience acceptable.
• 8+ years of professional experience in product design, experience design, UI/UX design, or design operations.
• Hands-on senior designer with strong visual and interaction design craft and production-quality digital experiences.
• Proficiency with Figma and InDesign; experience with reusable templates and libraries.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design operations capability, establishing model, priorities, standards and governance.
• Oversee design portfolio intake, prioritization, resource allocation, quality and delivery.
• Coordinate internal and external design resources and ensure consistent execution to standards.
• Hands-on execution of baseline design and production work across reports and portals; engage specialized expertise when needed.
• Own and continually improve design toolchain, including Figma governance and reusable components.
• Partner with product management to translate needs into design outcomes and ensure alignment to strategy.
• Establish design-to-development handoff practices and support QA of delivered experiences.
• Forecast design demand and capacity; identify upcoming resource needs.
