Job summary

HCL Technologies Limited in Santa Clara, CA seeks a System Design & Test Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and validating hardware test solutions that verify board-level functionality and electrical performance from prototype through mass production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to explain complex engineering concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working with Contract Manufacturers is preferred.
• Experience with bed-of-nails test fixtures and custom test instrument design is a plus.
• Prior technical leadership and/or project management experience preferred.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time (typically 8-10 days per trip).

Responsibilities

• Design and integrate hardware test fixtures and test instruments for product validation and manufacturing testing.
• Implement product testing solutions for new products from prototype stage through mass production.
• Collaborate with system design and diagnostics teams to understand system architecture and define functional and performance test strategies.
• Serve as the technical expert for system testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and validation methodologies.
• Present and communicate testing approaches, results, and engineering solutions to cross-functional teams.
• Act as the primary liaison with Contract Manufacturers to ensure test hardware and software are validated and production-ready.
• Develop, document, and execute product test plans and validation procedures.
• Specify test stations, diagnostics, and process control requirements for manufacturing environments.
• Implement parametric data collection and test process control mechanisms.

This role works closely with cross-functional teams including system design, diagnostics, firmware, software, operations, and manufacturing partners to create test fixtures, test stations, and validation processes that ensure product quality, reliability, and manufacturing readiness. The engineer serves as a technical expert for system testing, hardware validation, debugging, and test process development while supporting product integrity initiatives across the product lifecycle.

Compensation and Benefits

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
