Job summary

UDig invites motivated design students to join its 2027 Summer Internship Program in a hybrid, Virginia-based role. You will contribute to live client design work, from wireframes to high-fidelity mockups, while learning from senior designers in a hands-on consulting environment.

You'll support user research, collaborate with engineers, and present your work to stakeholders, gaining practical experience and a strong portfolio.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a design degree and maintaining a portfolio that shows your process.
• Proficiency with Figma or a similar design tool and strong UI/UX fundamentals.
• Availability to commit to the 8-week program in a hybrid role from Nashville or Richmond.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to live client design work—wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups.
• Support user research and usability testing; prepare sessions, analyze findings, and translate into design recommendations.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs are buildable and contribute to design systems and libraries.
• Present design rationale to project teams and stakeholders; iterate based on feedback.
• Research emerging technologies and best practices to apply in professional projects.

• Dedicate time to research emerging technologies and best practices relevant to your project, applying your academic knowledge in a professional setting.

WhatYou ’ llBring:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction Design, Graphic or Visual Design, UX Research, Service Design, or a related design field
• A portfolio — coursework, personal, or professional — that shows your user-centered design process, not just finished screens.
• Working knowledge of Figma (or a comparable design tool) and core UI/UX principles, including information architecture, responsive design, and accessibility.
• A strong passion for technology consulting and a proactive, ownership-oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the enthusiasm to ask questions and learn rapidly.
• Ability to work full-time for the duration of the8-week summer program (6/7-7/30)in a hybrid model based out of one of our hub locations (Nashville or Richmond).
