Job summary

Chemelex, a leader in electric thermal and sensing solutions, seeks an electrical engineer to design low voltage power distribution for industrial projects in Houston. You will select equipment, run calculations, prepare drawings, and ensure NEC/IEEE/IEC compliance while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Ideal candidates have 3–7 years of experience, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and familiarity with AutoCAD/Navisworks. PE/EIT is valued; SAP/MS Office and Bluebeam experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 3 to 7 years of power distribution system design experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • PE license, EIT, or desire to obtain licensure is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Navisworks, MS Office, and SAP is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low voltage secondary power distribution systems for industrial projects.
  • Specify equipment such as control panels, panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, cables.
  • Perform electrical calculations: voltage drop, ampacity, derating, cable sizing, raceway fill.
  • Prepare schedules, layouts, drawings, BOMs, and detailed specs.
  • Review specs to ensure NEC, IEEE, IEC compliance and internal standards.
  • Coordinate designs with project teams and attend customer meetings.
  • Support procurement by reviewing vendor drawings and submittals.
  • Provide engineering support during installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Review customer drawings and write RFIs.
  • Conduct site visits to verify equipment and assist project execution.
  • Develop standards, procedures and best practices for power distribution.
  • Support schedules, cost estimates and technical docs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam and in-house tools.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop low voltage secondary power distribution systems for industrial projects.
  • Select and specify equipment such as control panels, panelboards, transformers, circuit breakers, cables, and other electrical devices.
  • Perform electrical calculations, including:
    • Voltage drop analysis
    • Ampacity and Derating
    • Cable sizing
    • Raceway fill
  • Prepare electrical cable schedules, panelboard schedules, equipment layout, raceway routing drawings, wiring diagrams, setpoint schedules, bills of material, and specialized details.
  • Review engineering specifications to ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards such as the NEC, IEEE, IEC, and internal company standard requirements.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with heat trace project engineering lead, engineering management, project management, project controls, and construction teams.
  • Attend customer meetings to provide technical expertise as it relates to secondary power distribution design.
  • Support procurement by reviewing vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment specifications.
  • Provide engineering support during installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and write technical requests for information (RFIs).
  • Occasionally conduct site visits to verify existing equipment, sketch field designs, and support project execution.
  • Assist in developing power distribution engineering standards, design procedures, and best practices.
  • Support project schedules, cost estimates, and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Utilize software such as AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam, and in-house design tools.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.
  • 3 to 7 years of power distribution system design experience.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and project coordination skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or desire to obtain licensure.
