Job summary

IFAB in Gastonia, NC is seeking a Design Engineer to design and develop high-performance metal components, sheet metal products, and structural assemblies to meet customer specs and manufacturing capabilities. You will collaborate with shop floor teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure designs are feasible, cost-effective, and compliant with quality standards.

Prototyping, testing, and documentation will be part of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• 3–5 years of hands-on design experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Deep knowledge of sheet metal parts, stamping, machining, bending, cutting, welding, tooling.
• Strong blueprint reading, technical specifications, quality standards, and GD&T.
• Experience managing full product design lifecycle from concept to production.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and prototype custom metal products using CAD software.
• Develop detailed drawings with specs, tolerances, and materials.
• Create 3D models and simulations to assess performance and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and shop floor for feasibility and cost control.
• Provide engineering support during fabrication and resolve design issues.
• Prepare documentation, CAD files, drawings, and revision histories.
• Drive continuous improvement to reduce scrap and improve production efficiency.
