Job summary

Karman Space & Defense in Gulfport, MS, is seeking a Design Engineer to develop 3D models, drawings, BOMs, and production documentation supporting composite component design and manufacturing.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and project teams to optimize designs, support prototypes, and deliver engineering procedures, while leveraging SolidWorks and related CAD tools in a fast-paced defense environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Two or more years of experience in CAD design.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Experience using additional CAD platforms such as NX, AutoCAD, CATIA, or Inventor is a plus.
• Understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Develops and modifies three‑dimensional models and detailed engineering drawings using computer‑aided design (CAD) software.
• Designs components and assemblies according to project requirements and applicable industry standards.
• Creates bills of materials and defines material requirements.
• Collaborates with manufacturing, quality, and project management teams to support production and engineering activities.
• Supports prototype development, testing, and engineering procedure creation.
• Maintains accurate design documentation, including drawings, revisions, and technical reports.
• Identifies opportunities for design enhancements and cost‑efficient engineering solutions.
