Qualifications

• Strong parametric 3D CAD modeling experience with Creo, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
• Hands-on ANSYS Mechanical Workbench experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop vehicle, mechanical product, and system components.
• Create system physics models and characterize mechanical performance.
• Develop CAD concepts, components, assemblies, and packaging layouts.
• Design structural components such as frames, brackets, and subframes.
• Apply linear-static finite element analysis to evaluate and optimize designs.

Location: New Hudson, MI 48165
Pay Rate: $60.00–$64.00 per hour
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: Approximately three months
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week
Core Hours: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Work Arrangement: Onsite, with the possibility of a hybrid schedule

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a mid-level Design Engineer II to support mechanical product and system design from initial concept development through detailed drawing execution.

This position will focus on mechanical system design, parametric 3D modeling, structural analysis, and engineering documentation. The Design Engineer will work within a collaborative project team under the direction of a Design Team Lead while assuming responsibility for system-level design activities.

The ideal candidate will have strong CAD and ANSYS Mechanical experience, a solid understanding of structural design and GD&T, and the communication skills needed to collaborate with customers, engineers, technicians, and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop vehicle, mechanical product, and system components.
• Create system physics models and characterize mechanical performance.
• Develop CAD concepts, component designs, assemblies, and packaging layouts.
• Design structural components such as frames, brackets, and subframes.
• Apply linear-static finite element analysis to evaluate and optimize designs.
• Use ANSYS Mechanical Workbench to perform structural analysis.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings using ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
• Support system-level design decisions with modeling and engineering analysis.
• Prepare and present project updates, technical findings, and design recommendations.
• Develop test plans, procedures, and reports, including DVP&R documentation.
• Support customer issues using mechanical engineering, analytical, CAE, and project management skills.
• Prepare technical specifications for engineering, manufacturing, and testing activities.
• Support technicians and manufacturing teams during prototype and product builds.
• Respond to engineering change requests and resolve design-related questions.
• Evaluate design alternatives and recommend practical technical solutions.
• Present technical results to customers and incorporate their feedback into project activities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least three years of professional engineering experience.
• Strong parametric 3D CAD modeling experience using Creo, Siemens NX, and/or CATIA.
• Hands‑on experience using ANSYS Mechanical Workbench.
• Experience performing structural analysis and linear-static finite element analysis.
• Experience designing structural components, including frames, brackets, or subframes.
• Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
• Experience creating engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Strong mechanical design, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate work.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary project team.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency with Creo, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
• Strong ANSYS Mechanical and structural simulation capabilities.
• Experience with Design for Additive Manufacturing.
• Experience using Windchill or another PDM/PLM platform.
• Automotive, motorsports, aerospace, defense, or vehicle systems experience.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, testing, or manufacturing operations.
• Strong technical writing and customer-facing communication skills.

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to support technicians and shop-floor builds.
• Ability to operate basic hand tools when supporting prototype or testing activities.
• Availability to provide additional project support when required to meet critical deadlines.
• Occasional travel may be required for customer or supplier meetings, training, testing, or industry events.
