Job summary

Apex Engineering Group is seeking a Design Engineer to join the Transportation Group. This flexible role allows work from any Apex office with hybrid arrangements to suit project needs, including St. Cloud or other MN locations.

You will contribute to highway and urban roadway projects from planning through construction, collaborating with engineers, technicians, and project teams. The position offers growth toward Project Manager responsibilities and field leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in civil engineering required.
• MN/ND PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 6–12 months.
• 5+ years highway/roadway design experience preferred.
• Knowledge of MN DOT / ND DOT design processes preferred.
• Proficient with OpenRoads Designer and MicroStation; AutoCAD/Civil 3D a plus.
• Experience with municipal/urban projects and underground utilities is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Provide civil engineering services from planning through design and construction.
• Delegate tasks to CAD technicians and junior engineers.
• Communicate progress with supervisors and project managers.
• Attend project and client meetings regularly.
• Assist with proposals and business development as needed.
• Potentially serve as Project Manager or Client Manager on select projects.
• Act as on-site representative during construction and oversee field activities.
• Continually learn and apply company CADD procedures and client requirements.
• Ensure safety, ethics, and attention to detail in all work.
